One night away from it all.
On your own and with community.
Rest, restoration, creativity, connection.
(Or, if you want, Schitt’s Creek and sleeping in.)
WHO: Moms who crave a break this fall
WHEN: November 7-8, 2020 (Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning)
WHERE: You pick the venue. Somewhere that will feel like a restorative escape for a little less than 24 hours. Meagan and Sarah will each be checking into a hotel a short drive from our respective homes. We think a local inn, a charming rental property, or even the spare room at your parents’ house across town could all work.
WHAT: This event is solo, but supported. The focus is on creating space for YOU to feel like you’re getting a break. There will be a couple of live virtual sessions that you may choose to attend or watch later, and some pre-recorded content (featuring special guests!); there will be lots of ideas and support for making the time what you need it to be.
Think of this as the encouragement you need to take some time for yourself. We’ll provide the nudge, the packing list, and ideas for structuring the time to best restore yourself. You’ll also have the option to hop onto live virtual sessions like a Zoom happy hour, a morning check-in, a panel discussion, and more — if you want to. But if you’re blissed out in the tub with a candle lit and you’d rather chill solo, we won’t bother you. Promise.
What time are the live virtual sessions? When should I plan to be in “retreat mode”?
We’re putting the finishing touches on the schedule now, and we know moms will be attending from different time zones. If you’re checking into a hotel or inn, think of “check-in” and “check-out” times as the rough parameters of the retreat–say, 3pm Saturday to 11am Sunday in your local time zone.
I can’t get away for a night right now. Can I still attend?
Absolutely. We’ve designed the retreat so you can join from anywhere, including your home. We hope you’ll use the opportunity to think creatively about how to carve out a bit of alone-time and an environment that feels outside of your normal routine, but this can definitely be accomplished without leaving your house. We’ll be sharing specific ideas for doing a home retreat as we get closer to the event.
Will the sessions be recorded if I can’t watch them live?
Yes. In fact, while we intend to gather in live Zoom hangouts a couple of times during the event, much of the content for the retreat will be pre-recorded (asynchronous, for those of you with kids in virtual school!). We have attendees from all over the world participating and understand that time zones and real life make live virtual gatherings difficult. Everything will be recorded for you to watch on your own time. And EVERYTHING is optional – this retreat is much more about you taking the break that you need than it is about us in your face on a Zoom call. 🙂
Can I bring my baby?
Up to you! Often moms of multiple children feel like they’re on vacation when they’re alone with just a babe-in-arms. If a little time away from the rest of your household would feel like a break, bring that babe to your chosen venue. (We would LOVE to meet your teeny roommate on Zoom!) If it feels easier to stay home, however, and if you think you might get more of a break that way, attending the retreat from home is a great option. Bottom line: we very much doubt that you’ll be the only one with a babe-in-arms at this virtual retreat.
I haven’t left my house since March. Is it safe to stay at a hotel?
Check with your state and local health departments for travel recommendations in your area, and call ahead to your hotel to find out about their COVID-19 policies and procedures, as well as what the dining options are on site. Many properties now have contactless check-in, updated room service procedures, outdoor dining, and other COVID-compliant ways to enjoy your stay.
I’ve never listened to The Mom Hour podcast. Does that matter?
Nope! This retreat is founded on the principles that guide our show: moms deserve time and space for their own mental health, creative pleasures, and solo pursuits. If that sounds like your jam, join us!
(Before the retreat, we’ll recommend some episodes of the podcast to listen to that will help you get to know us if you don’t already–but don’t worry, there won’t be a quiz!)
FIRST, fill out this form to reserve your spot and let us know you intend to join us!
NEXT, check your email for a confirmation and more information about how to pay the $60 registration fee.
As of October 25 we are not accepting cancellations or issuing refunds. If you sign up and pay, we’ll assume you can join us!
