Mom’s 2021 Holiday Wish List

After all of the work that we, as moms, put into the holidays, we wanted to have some fun and dream about what we want this year. We asked our contributor team to share one gift that they hope to receive.

Sorel Slippers

“This year for Christmas I’m asking for a pair of Sorel slippers. They are a bit more than I usually spend on slippers, but a couple of friends have said they are worth the splurge!”

-Stacy Bronec @stacybronec

Gift Cards To Local Businesses

“I like getting gift cards to coffee shops or stores in my town so I can shop local. Between the pandemic and a damaging storm that we had in early September, they’ve been through A LOT. I get double the boost: choosing something fun for me, and feeling good knowing I’m supporting neighbors and their small businesses.”

-Joanne Ruelos Diaz @joannerevising

Travel Backpack

“After traveling for work for the first time in ages with a cute-but-cheap fashion backpack, I realized I needed an upgrade. (I’ve also coveted Meagan Francis’ cute travel backpack for years!) This year I am asking for this Luka Laptop Backpack from Calpak.”

-Sarah Powers, The Mom Hour Co-Host and Executive Producer

Air Fryer

“This year I am asking for an air fryer. I have had my eye on one for a couple of years, and recently my friend and my cousin both convinced me that it’s worth having in the kitchen. I would like to try some new recipes!”

-Emily Roark @emilyeroark

Apple AirPods

“I’m asking for AirPods this year! I’ve had a pair for for three-ish years and they are finally not holding a charge very well. I can’t decide if I should get the Pros or the newest ones that were just released. I love that I can have one ear tuned into a podcast and listen to my kids with the other ear as I do laundry or whatever. But my favorite feature is that whatever I’m listening to pauses when I pull the ear bud out of my ear. Perfect for a quick convo without having to stop the whole thing!”

Kindle Paperwhite

“A big life change for me this year was replacing TV time with reading! So, this year I am asking for a Kindle Paperwhite! I’m not usually a tech gadget type person but this year I also fell in LOVE with my AirPod pros so I just want to give those another ringing endorsement.”

Call Number Book Subscription Box

“I’m asking my husband for a “Call Number” subscription. It’s a book subscription box (adult or YA) specifically highlighting Black authors. I’ve gotten books from them in the past and they were AMAZING. They also have book club packages available.”

–Katherine DeVries @thepaperdart

Fragrance Spray

“I’m obsessed with fragrance, but already have way too many candles, so I’m asking for this splurge-worthy spray to spritz on my sheets. All their scents sound incredible, and I simply can’t choose, so whichever one I’m gifted will be a fun surprise!”

-Catie Parrish, The Mom Hour Brand Partnerships Manager and mom to three boys

Chirp Wheel

“Confession: Those “As Seen on Shark Tank” ads always snag my attention. I might ask for the Chirp Wheel. I need an antidote to all my work-from-home, slouching-over-my-desk back pain… ”

-Joanne Ruelos Diaz @joannerevising

Everyday Earrings

“This year I am asking for a pair of earrings I can wear everyday without having to take them out! I have sensitive skin, and I’m pretty plain when it comes to jewelry, so I wanted something simple that I could wear with everything to help me feel a little more put together especially since I’ll be so freshly postpartum! So these very small diamond earrings were exactly what I was looking for, and I usually always order my jewelry from this brand.”

-Kia Hammond @kiamhammond

J.Crew Moccasin Slippers

“These Faux Shearling Moccasin Slippers from J.Crew factory are well-known on the podcast (and came recommended by our friend @AshleeGadd). I have them, I’ve gifted them, and I highly recommend them. They are often (but not always) on sale, too!”

-Sarah Powers, The Mom Hour Co-Host and Executive Producer

New Jeans

“Soooo I haven’t worn jeans in YEARS, and I kind of want them back in my life. I am not sure what style I’d prefer, but I am looking to feel a tiny bit more put together but still comfy during the week! I am hoping for one or two new pairs from Madewell or Athleta!”

-Jayme Sherrod @jaymesherrod

Ororo Heated Vests

“One gift idea that may be great for partners or family members! We got Ororo Heated Vests last year and we basically didn’t take them off. We are always cold, and LOVED having them for outings or just lounging in the house. Highly recommend for the “cold-blooded folks” in your life ”

-Jayme Sherrod @jaymesherrod

Dyson Hair Dryer

“After YEARS of having this on my wishlist my husband gifted me with a dyson hair dryer last year and it has truly changed my hair styling life :joy: I got rid of my straightener and it has cut my drying time in half.”

-Joanna Martin @cafedumartin

New episode! Time is slippery—especially when y New episode!

Time is slippery—especially when you’re standing in midlife, looking both forward and back. Today Meagan and Sarah continue unpacking one of the most elusive and shape-shifting concepts we wrestle with: time. How do we imagine the future, how do we plan for it (tarot cards, anyone?), and how does our relationship to longterm planning and future-casting change in our forties? We explore the common traps we fall into when envisioning what’s next, the lessons that still haven’t quite landed, and how midlife has reshaped our goals, timelines, and even the way we dream.
