Last week we talked about our ever-evolving “mom style” and what looks we’re loving at this stage of life. This week we’re moving on to hairstyles, skincare, make-up and beauty routines.
Join Meagan and Sarah for much confusion and hilarity – and hopefully a little insight – on growing out short hair, going gray in our 30’s, being completely overwhelmed by skincare products, and making time in the daily routine for basic beauty and skincare.

I just looked at the sunscreen. I would love to know if you ladies use it. The sun screen is expensive but the refill seems reasonable. There is another brand “Mineral Fusion” that is bit cheaper. I wonder if it is as good.
Sarah Powers says
Dayna, it’s my sister who recommended and she totally swears by it. Her fiance uses it too – so there’s nothing “shimmery/girly” about it. 🙂 I haven’t bought it (yet) but am definitely interested.
Michele says
Great two-parter! I saw the same “Mineral Fusion” brush-on sunscreen as Dayna and am thinking about trying it — along with their other moisturizer/sunscreens. I’ve also used Origins’ A Perfect World moisturizer with SPF and it’s okay, but I’m not sure it’s worth the price tag (I got it on sale) and I’d prefer a mineral-based sunscreen. A little does go a long way, though. I’ve also heard GREAT things about Paula’s Choice moisturizer with SPF.
Jenny says
I use a cheaper SPF 30 sunscreen that I find at Target. It is Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30. I have combination skin and have always struggled to find a moisturizer that doesnt cause break outs. I have been using this for awhile and I am very happy with it.

I’m interested to know what hair products you both use and also what type of curling iron you would recommend. I have frizzy, half curly shoulder-length hair that I can’t quite figure out. Thanks!
Dayna says
Julie,
Have you read the “Curly Girl the Handbook” I have similar hair and it has been a game changer!
Sarah Powers says
Julie, I don’t use a ton of product on my hair. I have it colored (at least the roots – thank you, grays) every 6 weeks and use a drug-store shampoo and conditioner when I wash every 3 days. I usually let it air dry (super frizz) and then brush it out and either flat iron or curl it with a curling iron. I have a 1.5 inch curling iron – I think I’d like one that is even a little fatter than that. I just got mine at Target. Sorry I’m not more help! The biggest thing for me figuring out my frizz/curl was keeping my hair long with long layers. And learning to curl it helped too. YouTube videos are always a good place to start. 🙂
Meagan Francis says
I’ve had short hair for years now so I don’t think my advice will hold much water – but I have been using Crew hair paste (yes, the man’s stuff) for years and that’s really all I need at this length. I’m currently growing it out so I’ll be needing advice on product soon!
Emma Smith says
Ok, I’m coming in late here, but I just listened to this episode today and loved it! (I’ve been binge listening to back episodes for a few weeks now.) You ladies are actually quite sophisticated with your makeup routines, so I feel like I’m getting a push to up my own routine (which consists of a bit of tinted moisturizer I bought on a Sephora spree last year–that’s pretty much it. I don’t even wash my face at night. I need help). I just jotted down all the products you listed, but Sarah, you mentioned you had a few favorite drugstore mascaras. Can you name a few? Thanks!
