Thank you so much for this episode. I have a kindergartner starting school on Monday, and I have all the anxiety. I was homeschooled myself, so I have NO IDEA what to do. My kiddos went to preschool, but it feels different and overwhelming to me. Like… how does drop off and pick up work?
I took notes on this episode, about the phrase to encourage talking–my son likes to say “I don’t know” to all my questions already. Not to overburden those first 6 weeks–I’ve cleared the schedule for the first two weekends but now I’m seeing I need more grace for longer.
I was feeling stressed because I want to volunteer and do ALL THE THINGS but realistically I’m the breadwinner and a freelance journalist (Loved your previous podcast btw) and have a preschooler still, so I can’t be a greeter at the elementary school this year. There are lots of things i can’t do. Thank you for reminding me how long I will be in this school mom game and the freedom to know that this season, I can’t do everything, but maybe in two years, I can do more when they’re at the same school.
And thank you for the thoughts on the post-school routine. Ours with the preschool was so chill, but I’m seeing that probably I need to change it up. And my kids think the routine on one day is the routine FOREVER. So I need to think about this before Monday. I’m also challenged to see if they can do more about their own lunches and bento boxes. 🙂
Thanks so much. This was exactly what I needed to listen to this week. <3
Abby, yay! I’m so glad this hit at the right time. Hope the school year is going well!
